Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers completed round
nineteen of Super League 2025 with a Sunday afternoon kick off which was a must
win game for both sides, for the Wolves to keep their hopes of a play-off
alive, and for the Tigers a chance to increase the points gap to the sides
below them to four.
The bookies were backing the visitors and gave them a ten-point
handicap on the coupon, the margin by which they defeated the Tigers when they
met seven weeks ago in round thirteen.
A Warrington win would put them level on points with Wakefield
Trinity, but well behind on points difference, and just a single point behind
Hull FC inside the coveted top six.

With Wigan having been well beaten by the black and white
half of the city, Hull KR had a chance of going four points clear at the top of
the table if they could arrent back-to-back losses and get back to winning ways
against the beleaguered Catalans Dragons.
With Robins talisman Mikey Lewis back in the line-up, the
bookies didn’t give the home side much chance of springing an upset and gave
them a sixteen point start on the handicap coupon, despite home advantage.
It was the third meeting between the two sides in 2025, Hull
KR winning by a massive 68-6 a month ago and by 36-12 when they knocked the
Dragons out of the Challenge Cup on their way to lifting the trophy.

For a few hours at least, Wigan Warriors had the chance to
draw level with Hull KR at the top of Super League and all that stood in their
way was the Black & White side of Hull who themselves knew that a win would move them
back ahead of Wakefield Trinity and into the top six.
Wigan were clear favourites for the win and had been
handicapped by fourteen points on the coupon, but 2025 had seen a resurgence from
the Airlie Birds who were showing devastating form on the road, if not at home.
The sides have met three times om 2025, Wigan winning the
two league meetings with ease, but Hull sprang a surprise and eliminated the
Warriors from the Challenge Cup in the fourth round.

A newfound confidence that bottom club, the Salford Red
Devils, possessed from beating the Castleford Tigers last weekend came under
scrutiny as Paul Rowley’s beleaguered side travelled to West Yorkshire to do
battle with fifth placed Leeds Rhinos, their eyes firmly on a big win and a
move into fourth place in the table.
The bookies gave the visitors less chance than those of a ‘snowball
in hell’ as they gave them a fifty-two point start on the coupon with the Leeds
Rhinos expected to pile on the pain and amass the points to give their own
points difference a real boost.
Leeds were without a few of their stars, but Salford’s problems
are well documented, and they had the disruption of no Esan Marsters and having
to move skipper Ryan Brierley from full back to stand off.

The game of the weekend got round nineteen of Super League
XXX underway as fourth placed St Helens faced a Leigh Leopards side who were
holding third place in the table in a battle of two form sides with the prize
being to edge closer to Wigan in second.
It is the first meeting between the two sides in 2025, Leigh
winning two out of the three meetings last season, but Leigh haven’t beaten St
Helens, in St Helens, since 1982.
The home side were slight favourites with the bookies, handicapped
by four points on the coupon as they looked to move past Leigh and into third
place, two points behind the Warriors.

Two of the bottom three sides met in the final game of round
eighteen as Salford hosted Castleford with both sides looking to avoid the ignominy
of finishing at the bottom of the pile come the end of the season.
A win for the Red Devils would lift them to within two of
the Huddersfield Giants and win for the Castleford Tigers would see them to
within two of the Catalans Dragons, with the bookies thinking that it would be
the Tigers who would take the spoils, handicapping them by twelve on the
coupon.
This was the first meeting between the two sides in 2025,
Castleford winning in round four by 22-14 and round eleven by 48-16.

Two sides outside the six met for a round eighteen fixture
in Perpignan as a forlorn Catalans Dragons looked to keep their season alive as
they faced the Warrington Wolves, eighth playing ninth, although neither side
would improve their league position with the points on offer in the early
evening kick-off.
The bookies had made the Wolves slight favourites for a win
on their travels and had given the home side a six point start on the coupon,
but the weather was likely to be a leveller after heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Warrington took the points in the only previous meeting of
the season, an 18-12 win at the Halliwell-Jones at the end of February, but the
losers knew that a loss today could spell the end of their play-off hopes.

If Hull KR learned one thing from last weekends defeat
against the Rhinos it was that they would need to win the minor premiership
rather than just waiting to be crowned, and round eighteen dealt them another
test of their determination to finish top of the pile as they took on the Leigh
Leopards.
The visitors were slight favourites and were handicapped by
four points on the coupon despite being without talisman Mikey Lewis who was sitting
out a mandatory game after failing a head impact assessment against Leeds.
KR won the round five meeting by 30-0 but this was likely to
be much, much, closer.

to keep in touch with Wigan and Hull KR ahead of them., Saints knowing that a
win would lift them into third above Leigh and the Rhinos.
Leeds were the favourites with the bookies, handicapped by
six points on the coupon but many pundits thought that this game was too close
to call and the crowd were all set for a cracker of an encounter.
This is the fourth meeting between the two sides in 2025,
Saints with a 2-1 lead thanks to wins in the Challenge Cup and a round fifteen
encounter, the Rhinos winning the Magic weekend game in Newcastle.

A place was up for grabs in the top six as the first game of
round eighteen of Super League 2025 pitched sixth placed Wakefield Trinity at
seventh placed Hull FC with the winner certain to finish the round inside the
play-of places.
The bookies had installed Hull FC as favourites, but only by
two points on the coupon, as most pundits believed that this one was too close
to call before kick-off.
The side had met once previously in 2025, FC taking the
spoils with a four points victory at the end of March.

After a sensational, but ultimately fruitless, New South
Wales fightback three weeks ago, the third and deciding game promised to
deliver the highest of quality rugby league as both sides fought for the coveted
series victory.
With home advantage, the Blues were favourites for the win
and handicapped by eight points on the coupon but it all came down to eighty
minutes and thirty-four players for who would emerge victorious.
New South Wales were unchanged from the second game while
Gehamat Shibasaki and Josh Papalii were drafted in for Queensland in place of
Ponga and Fotuaika in front of a full house at the Accor Stadium in Sydney.

On paper the game of the round was the Sunday afternoon
meeting at Craven Park between champions elect Hull Kingston Rovers and one of
the form sides of recent weeks, the Leeds Rhinos with both sides desperate for
the points and promising a blockbuster of a game.
The bookies made the home side clear favourites for the win
by handicapping them by ten points on the coupon as they looked to repeat their
round nine victory in Super Lague 2025, the Rhinos seeking their first win over
the robins since August 2022.
It was a mouthwatering prospect for neutrals, and fans of
both sides.

The door to the top six was ajar for Wakefield Trinity following
Hull FC’s defeat earlier in the afternoon and a win would lift them above the
Black & Whites and into a play-off place, but the Catalans Dragons knew
that a defeat might spell the end of their own challenge for the top six after
a disastrous season for the French side.
Wakefield favourites with a ten-point handicap on the coupon
despite the Dragons securing a golden point victory when the two sides met at
the end of April, a clear indication of the recent drop in form for the
Dragons.
It was an intriguing fixture, last weeks big Dragons win
over the Giants adding to the neutral’s confusion.

The battle for the top six was the motivator for both sides
in a round seventeen match-up between sixth placed Hull FC and a St Helens side
who travelled east highly motivated to maintain their fifth spot.
A loss for the home side could see them usurped in the six
by Wakefield Trinity should they record a win over the Catalans Dragons in West
Yorkshire in the late afternoon kick-off.
A win for St Helens would lift them above Leeds Rhinos and into fourth on points difference, and more importantly, it would put them six
points clear of the side in seventh spot, and the bookies made the visitors slight
favourites and handicapped them by two points on the coupon.

Round seventeen of Super League XXX brought the third ‘Battle
of the Borough’ as Leigh and Wigan came together for what promised to be
another close encounter as the second placed Warriors faced a Leopards side in
fourth and still smarting from taking a beating in relinquishing their third
place to Leeds last weekend.
Both games so far, both played at The Brick, have been tight
affairs with Wigan winning the Round Eleven game by 36-28 and Leigh taking the
points in that memorable season opener by a solitary golden point drop goal,
this time Wigan were the favourites with the bookies and the home side had an eight-point
start on the coupon.
Wigan would move within two of Hull KR at the top if they
picked up the win, Leigh would be back into third spot if they were to pick up
the points but in danger of ending the weekend in fifth should they slip up.

The 2025 Betfred Super League season is set for another
significant milestone at the MKM Stadium on Saturday with aggregate attendances
on course to pass one million fans in the 100th match.
The current aggregate is 982,254 after 97 matches – and if, as
expected, the total breaches seven figures in Saturday’s Round 17 fixture
between Hull FC and St Helens, it will be only the second time in 30 Super
League seasons that the one million milestone has been reached in 100 fixtures
at an average of more than 10,000 per match – equalling the record set in 2008.

The opening game of round seventeen was a bottom of the
table four pointer between the Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants which
would either see the Tigers close within two points if the Catalans Dragons in
ninth spot, or the Giants move within two points of the Tigers.
The home side were slight favourites with the bookies having
been handicapped by four points on the coupon but in reality, the unpredictable
nature of both sides in a disappointing 2025 meant that it really was anyone’s
game to win.
The Tigers won the Round nine encounter at the John Smith’s
Stadium in April by 30-12, this was the Giants chance of revenge.

An unchanged St Helens side, fresh from their confidence
boosting win over the Leeds Rhinos last time out, were at home again to face a
Salford Red Devils side who have had another tumultuous week on the
administration side of their business.
Losing by an average score of 42-6 so far in 2025, Salford were
given a forty-eight-point start on the coupon in a game that they could not
possibly win, and which would be a matter of how many they could keep the red
vee to scoring.
A win for Saints would secure their fifth spot and lift them
to within a point of the Leigh Leopards, ready to pounce on fourth spot should
Adrian Lam’s side slip up again.

Wigan Warriors were still smarting from last weekend’s loss
at Wakefield Trinity which saw Hull KR edge closer to taking their minor
premiers title as the champions slipped back towards the chasing pack and today
was the day that they would look to put the record straight and record a big
victory against a Castleford Tigers side who are struggling for any form in
2025.
The bookmakers gave the Tigers a twenty-point start on the
handicap coupon, very confident that Wigan would be able to narrow the gap to
the league leaders and improve their points difference at the same time.

As the Warrington Wolves prepared to face Hull FC at the
Halliwell-Jones in a crucial round sixteen encounter, they knew that their chances
of making the top six were slipping away on the back of three consecutive
losses which sees them languishing in eighth spot in the table, five points
behind today’s opponents.
Despite the recent run of losses, the bookies still had the
Wolves as favourites for the win and had handicapped them by six points on the
coupon even though it was Hull who had won the previous encounter in April by
28-16.
The Wolves were surrounded by uncertainty in relation to the
future of the coach Sam Burgess, and their skipper George Williams, this was
the perfect time for a confidence boost.
